جَدَعتُI cut off عَلىat الماهاتِal-Māhāt آنَفُthe nose فارِسٍPersia

At al-Māhāt, I cut off Persia's nose,
I confronted the nobles, the persians' most valiant knights,
with every youth sprung from the loins of a wary horseman.
With every youth descended from a lineage of knights, beware!
هَتَكتُI ravaged بُيوتَthe houses of الفُرسِthe Persians يَومَthe day لَقَيتهُمI met them
وَماand not كُلُّevery مَنwhoever يَلقىfaces الحُروبَwars بِثائِرِan avenger
I ravaged the Persians' houses the day I met them,
I razed the persians' homes when I met them in battle,
and not everyone who faces wars is an avenger.
Though not every man who faces wars is unflinching.
حَبَستُI held back رُكابَthe mounts of الفَيرَزانِal-Fayrazān وَجَمعَهُand his host

I held back al-Fayrazān's mounts and his host,
I detained the persians' riders and their army
during a lull in their heat, myself unflagging.
In the fierce heat of battle, untiring.
هَدَمتُI razed بِهِwith it الماهاتِal-Māhāt وَالدَربُand the pass بَغتَةًsuddenly

With it, I suddenly razed al-Māhāt and the pass,
With it I demolished the nobles, and the path suddenly
toward another goal in the nights still to come.
Reached a different end, through the gloomy nights.
