Woe to me, alas for me! What shall I do when she escapes me,
After my hand had secured the triumph of winning her?

My heart said to my eye, reproaching it:
“This is your recompense from me, so bite the stone!
قَدindeed كُنتُI used to أَنهاكَforbid you عَنهاfrom her لَوif only تُطاوِعُنيyou would obey me
فَاِصبُرso be patient فَماfor there is no لَكَfor you تَيهاbewilderment (unclear in context) أَجرُreward مِنof one who صَبراendured
I used to warn you away from her—if only you had obeyed me!
So be patient; in bewilderment, you have no reward like that of one who endured.”
