If I could muster patience and find solace,

I would put Lubna out of mind, harboring no resentment.

But passion has torn my heart

to pieces, so I am neither patient nor steadfast.

Ask the night about me: how I watch its stars,

and how I endure sorrow, secluded and alone.

It is as though the wind blowing from the direction of your land

stirs up fragments of musk and dewy ambergris.
