The guardians of the clan's vulnerable flank—no

disgrace reaches them from behind us.

O Malik, even the turbaned chief may

go too far in some of his judgments.

We, with what we have, and you, with what

you have, are content; yet opinions differ.

We stand fast where praise is won by

standing fast; we are the bold and proud.

O Malik, if you accept what is right,

then in what is right lies fairness for our cause.

    وَالبَغيُ يا مالِ غَيرُ ما تَصِفُ

    You have differed in judgment from every generous man;

and injustice, O Malik, is not as you describe it.

Bujayr is indeed a client of your people,

and we honor what is right and acknowledge it.

Indeed, despite the old age you see in me,

I know from which side the shoulder is eaten.

Our cousins have indeed transgressed and acted unjustly,

and their excess has persisted among their own people.

Between the sons of Jahjabi and the sons of

Kulfa, how could my protected neighbor perish?
