أَلَم تَرَ أَحوالَ الزَمانِ وَرَيبَها

أَلَم تَرَ أَحوالَ الزَمانِ وَرَيبَها

وَكَيفَ عَلى هَذا الوَرى يَتَنَقَّلُ

وَكَيفَ عَلى هَذا الوَرى يَتَنَقَّلُ

Have you not seen time’s changing fortunes and their reversals,

Have you not seen how fickle this age is,

and how it moves among these mortals?

And how throughout this worldly domain it roams,
