Go out to the people, for among them you are no longer

that loathsome one who is feared and shunned.

When you were weak among them, they were safe from it.

And now you are the overbearing, clamorous master.

Set fear aside, for the people have understood.

Gone is the time when, O Shame, you were defeated.

    باتتْ له أعينٌ ترنو وتنجذِبُ

    Do not hide an ugly face that has begun to be kissed;

There are now eyes that gaze at it and are drawn to it.

And the people have quarreled over your strongest foe.

And their silence about you is a victory that cannot be wrested away.

Your day has come, and days are to be seized.

And the Arabs are backsliding, and the state of things is overturned.

None stands among them, for all have grown old.

Amusement and play have taken their toll on most of them.

As for the women, they have been kept busy, and the womb

no longer bears males, and so we grow uneasy.

Lay waste to houses where morals vanish,

And build up houses that belong to your dwelling.

O Shame, you were once a house among their houses,

With none to defend you but a reviled wreck.

And today you are a prince in their palaces.

Rather, you are highest among them in rank, and you are elected.

Make your steps firm, for whoever opposes you is defeated.

And everyone who has not answered your call is withdrawing.

Make Elohim your god, and share out among yourselves

roles of evil through which the East will go up in flames.

Put your lands at the enemies' disposal, so they may devour

what remains of a nation exhausted by revelry.

Incite their women and their offspring against them.

Teach them of rights and humankind, so that they fight one another.

Distort their religion for them, and scorn what they know.

The mighty one will become abased, then go into exile.

    وابْنِ البروجَ جِوارَه فتنحجبُ

    Do not demolish the house, lest resolve rise;

And build towers beside it, so that resolve is concealed.

Prepare poisons, and taint their arts with them,

So that, when they see their folly, they grow despondent.

Clothe them in humiliation, the cloaks of those who lived in ease.

And let only the name of manhood remain among them.

I have warned you of al-Sham, of a lion with ravenous hunger.

It approaches its prey from where you expect.

I have warned you of al-Sham: al-Sham is defeated

in the depths of a dream that falsehood recounted before you.

And in al-Sham are soldiers whose home is generosity,

And their sword is honor, and their might a marvel.

What we have built may come to an end and collapse,

If al-Sham returns, or its newly burnished swords.

And we will seek pardon while the fortresses are stormed,

And we will lament our luck as death draws near.

I have warned you of Jerusalem; do not let the servants mislead you.

For the elder there is a lion whose cub leaps.

    والشام للقدس مهما خالف العربُ

    And Jerusalem is for al-Sham, however nations may object;

And al-Sham is for Jerusalem, however the Arabs may disagree.

Do not let prolonged patience and pain deceive you.

The people will not be content until anger returns.
