بُلينا مِن الدُنيا بِصُحبة كاتب

قَد اِجتَمَعت فيهِ صِفات البَهائمِ

قَد اِجتَمَعت فيهِ صِفات البَهائمِ

We have been plagued in this world with the company of a writer,

We suffered in life with the company of a writer

in whom the traits of beasts have come together.

Who combined in himself the traits of beasts

دَعوهُ حَبيباً وَهوَ لا شَكَّ أَنَّهُ

دَعوهُ حَبيباً وَهوَ لا شَكَّ أَنَّهُ

بِغَيض وَمؤذٍ طَبعهُ كَالأَراقمِ

بِغَيض وَمؤذٍ طَبعهُ كَالأَراقمِ

They called him Habib ('beloved'), yet there is no doubt that he

We called him a beloved while he was without doubt

is hateful and harmful, his nature like that of speckled serpents.

Repugnant and hurtful, his nature like snakes

بَليد جَهول مُدّعٍ ذو غَباوَةٍ

بَليد جَهول مُدّعٍ ذو غَباوَةٍ

أَكول بصير إِنَّما قَلبهُ عَمي

أَكول بصير إِنَّما قَلبهُ عَمي

Dull-witted, utterly ignorant, pretentious and full of stupidity;

A stupid, ignorant pretender with foolishness

gluttonous and sighted, yet his heart is blind.

Gluttonous and alert, his heart is blind

إِذا ما بَدا في طَبعهِ الفظِّ خلته

إِذا ما بَدا في طَبعهِ الفظِّ خلته

كَزقّ هَواً يَبدو بِصورة آدمِ

كَزقّ هَواً يَبدو بِصورة آدمِ

When he shows his coarse nature, you would take him

When his rude empty nature appears

for an air-filled wineskin appearing in Adam's form.

Like an empty bag taking the form of a man
