لَثمتُ يَد المَحبوب يَوماً فَقالَ لي

لَثمتُ يَد المَحبوب يَوماً فَقالَ لي

عَلى خَجَلٍ حوشيتَ يا عَلَم المَجدِ

عَلى خَجَلٍ حوشيتَ يا عَلَم المَجدِ

One day I kissed the beloved's hand, and he said to me,

I kissed the hand of my beloved one day, so he said to me

Bashfully, “Far be it from you, O beacon of glory!

Bashfully, "You have been too bold, O standard of glory."

مَقامك أَعلى أَن أَراكَ مُقبّلاً

مَقامك أَعلى أَن أَراكَ مُقبّلاً

بِجِسمي غَير الجيد وَالثَغر وَالخَدِّ

بِجِسمي غَير الجيد وَالثَغر وَالخَدِّ

Your station is too high for me to see you kissing

"Your rank is too high for me to see you kissing

Any part of my body except the neck, lips, and cheek.”

My unworthy body, my mouth, and my cheek."

فَقُلت أَرى إحياء نَفسي بِقُبلة

فَقُلت أَرى إحياء نَفسي بِقُبلة

بِرجلك أَولى مِن هَلاك أَخ الوَجدِ

بِرجلك أَولى مِن هَلاك أَخ الوَجدِ

I said, “I deem reviving my soul with a kiss

So I said, "I see the revival of my soul with a kiss

Upon your foot preferable to the death of passion's companion.

To your foot, better than the death of a passionate lover.

وَما أَنت إِلّا كَعبة الحُسن حَيثما

وَما أَنت إِلّا كَعبة الحُسن حَيثما

لَثمتُكَ نِلتُ الأَجر يا غايَة القَصدِ

لَثمتُكَ نِلتُ الأَجر يا غايَة القَصدِ

And you are none other than the Kaaba of beauty: wherever

You are nothing but the Kaaba of beauty wherever

I kiss you, I earn the reward, O goal of my quest.”

I kiss you, I attain reward, O ultimate aim."

فَأعجب حَتّى قالَ سُبحان من برى

فَأعجب حَتّى قالَ سُبحان من برى

لَنا دَولَةً مَولايَ أَضحى بِها عَبدي

لَنا دَولَةً مَولايَ أَضحى بِها عَبدي

He was so impressed that he said, “Glory to Him who fashioned

So he was pleased until he said, "Glory to Him who created

A dominion for us, through which my master has become my slave!”

For us a state, my Master, in which my slave has become."
