قصاص مضرّ الناس عِندي مقدَّم

عَلى حَدّ نَشوانٍ عَداك أَذاهُ

عَلى حَدّ نَشوانٍ عَداك أَذاهُ

In my view, retribution against one who harms people takes precedence

Punishing the harm of people takes precedence for me

over the prescribed punishment of a drunkard whose harm has passed you by.

Over the joy of vengeance, except for he who wronged you

فَذاكَ مضرٌّ نَفسه باِرتكابه

فَذاكَ مضرٌّ نَفسه باِرتكابه

وَهَذا مضرٌّ نَفسه وَسواهُ

وَهَذا مضرٌّ نَفسه وَسواهُ

For that one harms himself through his transgression,

For he harms himself by his own doing

while this one harms himself and others.

While this one harms himself and others too
