نَصَحت أولي الغَباوة فَاِسترابوا

نَصَحت أولي الغَباوة فَاِسترابوا

بِنصحي وَاِشتَروا بِالرُشد غَيّا

بِنصحي وَاِشتَروا بِالرُشد غَيّا

I advised the foolish, so they grew suspicious

The foolish rejected my counsel and so misjudged me;

Of my counsel, and bought error at the price of sound guidance.

They bought error with my integrity.

وَقيل عَلَيك فيما قُلت رَدٌّ

وَقيل عَلَيك فيما قُلت رَدٌّ

فَقُلت لَهُم عَليّ وَما عَلَيّا

فَقُلت لَهُم عَليّ وَما عَلَيّا

And I was told, “There is a rebuttal against you concerning what you said.”

And it was said, "Refute him for what he has spoken";

So I told them, “Against me—but what does it matter to me?”

I said to them, "That is for me, not incumbent on me."
