لاdo not تَحسَبواsuppose (you, plural) الجاهلthe ignorant man مِنout of جَهلِهِhis ignorance
لا تَحسَبوا الجاهل مِن جَهلِهِ
مرَّhe passed by وَلَمand did not يومئgesture لَناto us بِالسَلامwith a greeting
مرَّ وَلَم يومئ لَنا بِالسَلام
Do not suppose the ignorant man, out of his ignorance,
Passed by without gesturing a greeting to us;
لَكنَّهُbut he أَعطىgave اِحتِراماًrespect لَناto us
لَكنَّهُ أَعطى اِحتِراماً لَنا
فَحَطَّso he lifted عَنّاfrom us واجِباتobligations القِيامof rising
فَحَطَّ عَنّا واجِبات القِيام
Rather, he showed us respect,
And so relieved us of the obligation to rise.
