1. بِاللَهِ يا ذات الخَالِ

    لا تَسمَعي قَول الخالي

    By God, O lady with the beauty mark,

    Do not heed the words of one free of love.

  2. شَمس تَناهَت بِالعجبِ

    حَتّى تَوارَت بِالحجبِ

    A sun who reached the height of pride,

    Until she hid herself behind veils.

  3. وَإِذ تَدانَت لِلقُربِ

    ما لي وَما للعذّالِ

    And when she drew near in intimacy,

    What have I to do with the reproachers?

  4. زارَت وَسحر الأَحداقِ

    يَسبي عُقول العشّاقِ

    She visited, and the magic of her eyes

    Takes captive the minds of lovers.

  5. وَوَجهها بِالإِشراق

    يَحكي سَنا البَدر العالي

    And her face, in its radiance,

    Mirrors the brilliance of the full moon on high.

  6. فاقَت عَلى غُصن الرندِ

    بِلين أَعطاف القدِّ

    She surpassed the laurel bough

    In the suppleness of her figure's curves.

  7. وَلَحظها التُركي الهِندي

    يَحمي لَمى الثَغر الحالي

    And her Turkish, Indian glance

    Guards the dusky hue of her lovely lips.

  8. حازَت مَقام التَنزيهِ

    عَن الظبا بِالتَشبيهِ

    She attained a station of transcendence,

    Beyond comparison with gazelles.

  9. فاِروِ أَحاديث التيهِ

    عَن لُطف جرّ الأَذيالِ

    So recount the tales of her proud bearing,

    Of the grace with which she trails her hems.

  10. أَذكى صَلاتي لِلهادي

    شَمس الهُدى وَالإِسعادِ

    My most fragrant blessings upon the Guide,

    The sun of guidance and felicity,

  11. وَآل ناديه النادي

    أَهل النَدى وَالإِفضالِ

    And upon the people of his bounteous assembly,

    People of generosity and beneficence.
