for you have lifted anguish from the sorrowing heart.
for you have lifted suffering from the sorrowful heart.

east wind, for my heart's desire is Mina's dwellings.

And repeat to me news of Taybah's sanctuary;
for tidings retold yield the sweetest harvest of delights.
for what is repeated is the sweetest fruit of delights.

يَوماً لِتِذكار مَن أَضحى لَها سَكَنا
What a heart the ardent lover has—it has never known rest,
How wondrous a lovesick heart that never grew still,
not for a day, at remembrance of the one who became its dwelling.
even for a day, at the memory of him who became its refuge.

Nor did the lightning of al-Abraqayn flash its radiance
without robbing the sorrowing one’s eyelids of sleep.
without depriving the sorrowful one's eyelids of slumber.

Between my heart and the departing caravan I discern
Between my heart and the departing travelers' caravan I see
a covenant: whenever its beloved ones depart, both depart.
a pact: whenever its loved ones depart, it departs.

Were it not for the eyelids’ tears, by which there died down
But for tears from the eyelids, which quenched
the fire of sorrow, the grief-stricken lover would have melted from passion’s heat.
sorrow's fire, it would have melted in grief from longing's heat.

Restore my heart! For God has restored to it
Return my heart, for God has restored to it
its beloved ones; restore, too, whatever in it has grown frail.
its loved ones; restore whatever in it has grown weak.

And seek out the news that the bearer of glad tidings brought,
for they healed the lover of the wasting sickness that afflicted him.
till it healed the affliction that had made the lover waste away.

They triumphed in attaining their wishes; then, when they returned,
we said to them, “Welcome! You have honored the homeland.”
we said to them: 'Welcome! You have honored the homeland.'

Welcome to the appearance of a full moon, emerging with joy;
good fortune and the loftiest ascendant have indeed conjoined.
and good fortune has conjoined with the highest ascendant.

Glory was not content to name him one full moon of guidance;
Glory was not content to name him a full moon of guidance;
rather, honoring him, it said, “Two full moons,” and doubled the name.
but said 'Badran'—two full moons—to honor and praise him.

he is not adorned by riches, whatever their weight.
and he is not adorned by wealth, however much it weighs.

every quality he has acquired has come to be seen as beautiful.
