And a noble steed from whom the gaze was turned away when
A glance averted when the dawn did gleam,
the dawn of his forehead's blaze sparkled and gave greeting.

A scion of noble winning steeds; whenever
Scion of nobles, when his steed draws nigh,
he gallops, you behold a prodigy in him.
Genius and brilliance in his mien you spy.
لَوif اِنَّindeed النَجمthe star سابقهraced him لَأَمسىit would end up

If the star were to race him, it would end up
If he outstripped the stars, they soon would wane
in his tracks, cut off and far behind.
Before his lead, though lofty was their gain.
هُوَhe العَربيّthe Arabian كَمhow often بَهرتdazzled لَدَيناamong us

He is the Arabian; how often, among us,
O Arab son, what wonders you evince,
his praiseworthy runs have dazzled a non-Arab!
Outshining foreign tongues and eloquence!
فَأَسرعso, swifter مِنthan صباthe east wind سحرpredawn مَهبّاًin blowing

So he is swifter in his rush than the predawn east wind,
Swifter than zephyr in the witching hour,
and more wondrous in countenance than a moon's radiance.
More brilliant than the moon in silver shower.

He raced with lightning on the racing grounds,
He raced as lightning flashes through the sky,
so he laid it bare and made it plainly visible.
Eclipsing, outshining them, to stand on high.

And if you gave his resolve free rein,
If but his will unbridled course allowed,
he would almost tread on the Pleiades with his horseshoe.
With just his sandal he would crush the proud.
