متى ما تُخالِط عالَمَ الإنس لم يَزَلْ

متى ما تُخالِط عالَمَ الإنس لم يَزَلْ

بسمعِكَ وَقرٌ من مقالِ سفيهِ

بسمعِكَ وَقرٌ من مقالِ سفيهِ

Whenever you mingle with the world of humankind, there is always

Whenever you associate with people, foolish talk

a heaviness in your hearing from a fool's words.

Assails your ears and leaves you vexed.

إذا ما الفتى لم يَرُم شخصكَ عامدا

إذا ما الفتى لم يَرُم شخصكَ عامدا

بكفيَه عن ضَغنِ رَمَاك بفيهِ

بكفيَه عن ضَغنِ رَمَاك بفيهِ

If a young man does not deliberately seek to harm you

If a young man does not deliberately seek to harm you,

with both his hands out of rancor, he assails you with his mouth.

Restrain your hands from punishing him with your mouth.

وقد علم الله اعتقادي وأنني

وقد علم الله اعتقادي وأنني

أعوذُ به من شر ما أنا فيهِ!

أعوذُ به من شر ما أنا فيهِ!

And God indeed knows my belief, and that I

God knows what I believe, that I

seek refuge in Him from the evil of the state I am in!

Seek refuge with Him from the evil that I am in!
