The house of al-Muhallab are a people endowed with nobility

that no Arab has attained, nor even approached.

If Glory were told, 'Turn aside from them and leave them,

for whatever you demand of this world,' it would not turn aside.

Indeed, noble virtues are spirits whose

bodies are the house of al-Muhallab alone among men.

The house of al-Muhallab are a people who, if I praise them,

have been the noblest in their fathers and forefathers.

Indeed, you find the leading men much envied,

but you see no enviers of the base among men.

How many an envier of theirs is confounded by their excellence:

he has not matched their achievements, nor even come close.
