The night of afflictions has a dawn of relief.
The night of distress has a dawn of relief
So watch for it, awaiting the lights through the openings.
So watch for it, hopeful for the lights in relief

And every darkness of overwhelming distress you see
behind it the light of deliverance's dawn breaking forth.
Has behind it the light of the brilliant dawn of victory

And everything passes, be it sorrow or relief
so accept the decree and submit, unperturbed.
So accept destiny and submit without being perturbed

For you are only being tested in your earthly life,
You are only being tested in this world
by your Lord's decree, in ease and in hardship.
By the judgement of your Lord, in ease and in hardship

And time, like water, is by nature turbid;
Time is like water, inclined to be murky
and even if it clears, it inclines toward crookedness.
And if clear, it is tilting towards crookedness

grow discontented, and say sincerely, 'O distress, give way!'
Become despondent, and sincerely say "Oh crisis, disperse!"

from your Lord's wisdom, coming to you with gladness.
From the hidden judgement of your Master that comes to you

If their outward aspect is bitter, be patient, for their inward aspect
If its outward is bitter, then be patient, its inward
is sweet; so do not be troubled, and beware of obstinacy.
Is sweet, so do not be perturbed and beware of agitation

Dive into the seas of tranquil submission happily
and swim; do not fear drowning in the depths.
And swim without fearing drowning in agitation

Lowered state soared to the highest level

What has passed by destiny, accepting it has passed

So it will not mix with what is to come

Do not be troubled by the decree's manifestation in acts of wisdom,
Do not be perturbed by the manifestation of judgement in a judgement
for the decree holds sway over the nobles (reading uncertain) and the rabble.
For the judgement flows over the noble and the ignoble

its luminous appearance would not delight amid the darkness.
Its light would not be delightful in the darkness
