Sol 6.1

  1. كأسنا بانسجامٍ رقّ قرقف

    شراب التداني

    Our cup’s wine grew delicate in harmony,

    the draught of nearness,

  2. عن سنا أنس جام قد شفّ عن رشف

    قناني القيان

    from the radiance of a convivial goblet, now revealing sips from

    the singing girls’ flagons.

  3. وندام المدام بالسكر راحت

    سكارى الدنان

    And the wine’s companions went forth intoxicated,

    drunk on the wine-jars.

  4. في مقام الهيام بالسرّ باحت

    عن خفي الغواني

    In the station of rapture, they disclosed the secret

    of what lies hidden in the fair ones.

  5. قام داعي الغرام للنهل والعلّ

    من صفا الأواني

    Love’s herald arose for the first draught and the second,

    from the vessels’ purity.

  6. داعياً للندام حيّا وحيعَلْ

    في ورد التهاني

    Calling to the companions, he greeted them and cried, “Come!”

    in the litany of glad wishes.

  7. عند ذكر السلام سلمى تبدّت

    بحسن الحسان

    At the mention of peace, Salma appeared

    with the beauty of the fair ones.

  8. وتحايا السلام للكلّ أهدت

    بنيل الأماني

    And she offered greetings of peace to all

    through the fulfillment of wishes.

  9. قد أماطت لثام عن وجه ذات

    بها الكلّ فاني

    She has lifted a veil from the face of the Essence,

    in which all passes away.

  10. لا ترى لا ترام غير صفات

    بحسن المعاني

    Nothing is seen or sought but attributes,

    in the beauty of meanings.

  11. أشهدتنا نظام لآلي العقود

    بسمط المباني

    She showed us the stringing of the necklaces’ pearls

    on the strand of forms,

  12. بافتتاح اختتام توحيد الوجود

    في صوت المثاني

    with the opening of the close of being’s oneness

    in the sound of the lute strings.

  13. وصلاةٌ مع سلام لفتح الشهود

    من عين العيان

    And blessings, with peace, upon the Opening of Witnessing,

    from the wellspring of direct vision;

  14. وهو سرّ الختام بدء الوجود

    مفتاح البيان

    and he is the secret of the close, the beginning of existence,

    the key to eloquence.
