ياO منكرينyou who object علىto منthose who
يا منكرين على من
لربّهمof their Lord ذاكريناthose who remember
لربّهم ذاكرينا
O you who censure those
who remember their Lord:
الجهلignorance أعمىhas blinded قلوباًhearts
الجهل أعمى قلوباً
منكمamong you وأغشىand veiled عيوناeyes
منكم وأغشى عيونا
ignorance has blinded hearts
among you and veiled eyes.
أماhas ... not? الكتابthe Book أتاكمcome to you
أما الكتاب أتاكم
بالذكرwith remembrance يتلىbeing recited مبيناclearly
بالذكر يتلى مبينا
Has not the Book come to you
with remembrance, recited clearly?
وسنّةٌand a tradition قرّرتهhas affirmed it
وسنّةٌ قرّرته
عنfrom سيّدthe master of المرسليناthe messengers
عن سيّد المرسلينا
And a tradition has affirmed it,
from the master of the messengers.
إنّيindeed I أخافfear عليكمfor you
إنّي أخاف عليكم
ياO منthose who غدواthey have become منكريناdeniers
يا من غدوا منكرينا
Indeed, I fear for you,
O you who have become deniers,
سوءan evil الختامending فأنتمfor you are
سوء الختام فأنتم
هلكىdoomed معwith الهالكيناthe doomed
هلكى مع الهالكينا
an evil end, for you are
doomed along with the doomed.
كفّواcease أذاكمyour harm وتوبواand repent
كفّوا أذاكم وتوبوا
وراقبواand be mindful of اللهGod فيناconcerning us
وراقبوا الله فينا
Cease your harm and repent,
and be mindful of God in your treatment of us.
بارزتموهyou have challenged Him بحربٍto war
بارزتموه بحربٍ
فيconcerning حزبهHis company المفلحيناthe successful
في حزبه المفلحينا
You have challenged Him to war
in opposing His triumphant company.
كأنّكمas though you قدindeed جهلتمyou were ignorant of
كأنّكم قد جهلتم
ربّاًa Lord قويّاًmighty متيناunshakable
ربّاً قويّاً متينا
As though you had not known
a Lord, mighty and unshakable,
ذوpossessor of القهرoverwhelming might جلّHe is exalted اقتداراًin power
ذو القهر جلّ اقتداراً
بالحكمin ruling فيover العالميناthe worlds
بالحكم في العالمينا
Possessor of overwhelming might, exalted in power
in ruling over all the worlds.
فإنso if جهلتمyou act ignorantly عليناtoward us
فإن جهلتم علينا
وكنتمُand you are مفتريناslanderers
وكنتمُ مفترينا
So if you act ignorantly toward us
and are slanderers,
وذكرناand our remembrance قدindeed أبيتمyou have rejected
وذكرنا قد أبيتم
فنحنthen we فيهwith it رضيناwe are content
فنحن فيه رضينا
and have rejected our remembrance,
then we are content with it.
علمتمyou deemed الجهلignorance علماًknowledge
علمتم الجهل علماً
فكنتمُand so you became الأخسريناthe greatest losers
فكنتمُ الأخسرينا
You took ignorance for knowledge,
and so became the greatest losers.
علىagainst أوليthe people of الذكرremembrance كنتمyou have been
على أولي الذكر كنتم
بجهلكمthrough your ignorance معتديناtransgressors
بجهلكم معتدينا
Against the people of remembrance you have been
transgressors in your ignorance.
إذاًthen سلامٌpeace عليكمbe upon you
إذاً سلامٌ عليكم
لاnot نبتغيwe seek الجاهليناthe ignorant
لا نبتغي الجاهلينا
Then peace be upon you;
we do not seek the ignorant.
إنif لمnot تبوءواyou return إليناto us
إن لم تبوءوا إلينا
كنتمyou will be منamong النادميناthe regretful
كنتم من النادمينا
If you do not return to us,
you will be among the regretful.
