هب يا قلب لاجتنا لذاتك — Omar Alyafi

هِبَّ يا قلب لاجتِنا لذّاتِكْ

واقتطفها من زهر روضة ذاتِكْ

Arise, O heart, to gather your delights,

And pluck them from the blossoms of your being's garden.

راح داعي الفلاح يدعو إلى الرا

ح فلاح الصباح من كاساتك

The herald of salvation went forth, calling to wine,

Then morning shone from your cups.

فالسباق السباق حيّ على السا

قي بشمس النهار في راحاتك

So race, race! Hasten to the cupbearer,

With the sun of day in your palms.

هي نار الكليم فامح خليل ال

ذات في نورها حجاب صفاتك

It is Moses' fire; so efface, O friend of the

Essence, the veil of your attributes in its light.

واقتبس جذوة التجلّي بسينا

ء سناً لاح من جميع جهاتك

And take an ember of self-revelation at Sinai—

A radiance that shone from every side of you.

واصطبح في الغبوق صبح هداها

وهو يعدو بالنور في ظلماتك

And at dusk, drink the dawn of its guidance as morning wine,

While it races with light through your darkness.

خمرةٌ في الكؤوس خير سقاةٍ

مزجوها باليُمن في حاناتك

Wine in the cups—the finest cupbearers

Have blended it with blessing in your taverns.

وهي عينٌ في حاجبٍ من زجاج

كحجاب المصباح في مشكاتك

And it is an eye behind a screen of glass,

Like the lamp's veil within your niche.

ما روى الخضر مورداً من حياةٍ

غير وِردٍ من ماءٍ عين حياتك

Al-Khidr quenched his thirst at no spring of life

Except with a draught from the water of your life's spring.

ليس شهد الشهود أو راحة الرا

ح وحَسْنا البها سوى حسناتك

Neither the honey of witnessing nor the solace of wine

Nor splendor's beauty is anything but your graces.

فاستمع منك وحدةً في المثاني

بتوالي الآلاء في آلاتك

So hear from yourself oneness in the repeated verses,

As blessings follow one another in your instruments.

واحْدُ في أرض نجد عشّاق سلمى

واجعل المطربات بعضَ حداتك

And sing Salma's lovers onward in the land of Najd,

And make the songstresses some of your caravan-chanters.
