Is this a letter, or a herald of bliss,
This is a book by Amir Saadi
Recounting the tale through the loftiest chain of transmission?
That narrates the finest traditions

And through remembrance it stirred up times that were never
And evokes memories of times past
Forgotten, and made me forget bygone threats:
That were unforgettable and renewed reunions

والقلب في طربٍ وفي أعياد
The days when Time was heedless of us,
Days when fate was unconcerned with us
And the heart was in rapture and in celebration.
With hearts joyful and in celebration

His moist lips were like eloquent words
Wine lay in ambush to steal the mind.
An ambush to capture reason through cunning

A gazelle, yet his covert is within the heart;
A gazelle, though in the heart a cunning hunter
His eyelids were not lined with black kohl.
Whose eyes were never darkened with kohl

So marvel at a gazelle that hunts lions!
A gazelle, hunter of lions, imagine that!

He leaves the eloquent man shackled by the letter ḍād.
Leaving eloquent speakers fettered by 'dad'

As long as the Hijaz caravan sets out, trotting over
As soon as he intended heading to Hejaz
The uplands of Iraq, and the assembly's fragrance wafts.
I found Iraq and the fragrance of musk spread
