I clasped a little girl to my chest.

I held a young girl close to my chest

Despite my old age, she has raised my name in love.

Though old in love, she raised my name

نحوت لإعراب الثنا مذ رأيتها

I sought to voice praise from the moment I saw her.

I declined her glance when I first saw her

Her eyelids hold a spell free from blame.

She has magic eyelids, leave off blame

ومذ كسرت أجفانها قلت هذه ال

لتي فوقت من خفض طرف الهوى سهمي

لتي فوقت من خفض طرف الهوى سهمي

وقد نصبت أشراك هدبٍ لأنّها
