Affirming the Essence's oneness is sweet to me through duality, not from two.

The union of the eye is sweetened by its duality, not from two

Nothing like him meets the eye.

None like it in the sight of the eye

وتجلَّى لي يجلي صهباء الحانهما بين الندمان

وتجلَّى لي يجلي صهباء الحانهما بين الندمان

أنس جام بالإنسجام

أنس جام بالإنسجام

And he revealed himself to me, unveiling the tawny wine of their melodies among drinking companions.

And it was revealed to me, revealing the radiance of their eyelids between the two pupils

A goblet's delight in harmony.

The pleasure of a cup with harmony

المدام المدام ردّ عذبه

المدام المدام ردّ عذبه

يا من قد هام بالهيام

يا من قد هام بالهيام

Wine, wine—restore its sweetness!

The wine, the wine, its sweetness echoing back

O you who have been lost in love's frenzy!

Oh you who passionately love with fervor

في عين العين مأمولي دنا منّي قاب قوسين

في عين العين مأمولي دنا منّي قاب قوسين

أو أدنى في ذا المجلى

أو أدنى في ذا المجلى

In the essence of the Essence, my hoped-for one drew near me, two bow-lengths away,

In the eye of the eye my hope drew near me two bow lengths away

Or nearer, in this manifestation.

Or nearer in this assembly

وتدلّى بيدي فيك الحانه حيث الأشجان بالأنغام

وتدلّى بيدي فيك الحانه حيث الأشجان بالأنغام

في هيام

في هيام

And he drew close, his melodies in my hand within you, where sorrows accompany tunes,

And the eyelids hung with me therein where the eyelashes with the melodies

In love's frenzy.

In fervor

المقام المقام إذ حبّه

المقام المقام إذ حبّه

يجلي الأوهام بالأنغام

يجلي الأوهام بالأنغام

The station, the station—for his love

The place, the place as its love

Dispels illusions through melodies.

Clarifies illusions with melodies

مرج البحرين من دمعي ومن سمعي فرق الجمعين

مرج البحرين من دمعي ومن سمعي فرق الجمعين

إذ أصله روح الكونين

إذ أصله روح الكونين

He let loose the two seas, from my tears and from my hearing, and parted the two unions.

The confluence of two seas from my tear and my hearing the separation of the two

For his source is the spirit of both worlds.

As its origin is the soul of the two worlds

جلّ الله أعلى شانه ما بين الأعيان

جلّ الله أعلى شانه ما بين الأعيان

بالصلاة والسلام

بالصلاة والسلام

Allah—exalted be He—raised his standing among beings,

Exalted is Allah, highest is His station between creations

With blessings and peace.

With prayers and peace

السلام السلام

السلام السلام

والرغبة حسن الإكرام

والرغبة حسن الإكرام

Peace, peace,

Peace, peace

And yearning is the beauty of honoring.

And good will is excellent hospitality
