مـاwhat أرتـنيshe showed me منof فراديسparadises بعيدةfar-off
مـا أرتـني من فراديس بعيدة
A journey of longing on which I did not reach
The far-off paradises she showed me.
طـالgrew long دربـيmy road وانتهىand ran out زاديmy provisions لهfor it
طـال دربـي وانتهى زادي له
ومضىand passed عمريmy life علىon ظهرthe back of قصيدةa poem
ومضى عمري على ظهر قصيدة
My road grew long, and my provisions for it ran out,
And my life passed on the back of a poem.
