تأبى قبولي أيُّ أرضٍ زرتها
قدميmy foot رجائيmy hope وافتقاريand my poverty سائقيmy driver
قدمي رجائي وافتقاري سائقي
Every land I have visited refuses to accept me.
My hope is my foot, and my poverty my driver.
فكأنّماso, as though الدنياthe world يداthe two hands of متحرِّزٍa wary person
فكأنّما الدنيا يدا متحرِّزٍ
وكاننيand as though I فيهاwithin it وديعةُan entrusted deposit سارقa thief
وكانني فيها وديعةُ سارق
So it is as though the world were a wary man's two hands,
And I within it were a deposit entrusted by a thief.
