By my life, we have sold life and its pleasures
For the approval of a Lord who knows all creatures,
غَداةَon the morning when نَكُرُّwe wield repeatedly المَشرَفِيَّةَthe Mashrafi swords فيهِمُagainst them
بِسولافَat Sulaf يَومَon the day of المازِقِthe press of battle المُتَلاحِمِclosely interlocked
On the morning we turned Mashrafi swords against them
At Sulaf, on the day of close-locked battle.

And if the slain on the day of Saliyy fell one after another,
Then how many mighty chieftains our swords have left

Lying slain, and [cut off] from life's stir; and now
Their mourning women wail amid the funeral gatherings.
