ياO رَبِّmy Lord عَفوَكَYour pardon عَنfor ذيone with تَوبَةٍrepentance وَجلٍfearful
يا رَبِّ عَفوَكَ عَن ذي تَوبَةٍ وَجلٍ
كَأَنَّهُas though he were مِنfrom حذارِdread of الناسِpeople مَجنونُmad
كَأَنَّهُ مِن حذارِ الناسِ مَجنونُ
O my Lord, pardon a trembling penitent,
As though he were mad from dread of people.
قَدalready كانَhe had قَدَّمَperformed أَعمالاًdeeds مَقارِبَةًof middling worth
قَد كانَ قَدَّمَ أَعمالاً مَقارِبَةً
أَيّامَin the days when لَيسَthere was not لَهُfor him عَقلٌreason وَلاnor دينُfaith
أَيّامَ لَيسَ لَهُ عَقلٌ وَلا دينُ
He had once performed deeds of middling worth,
In days when he had neither reason nor faith.
