To the meteors I say, dragging behind me the train of my conjectures:
To the shooting stars I say, trailing behind me the train of my conjectures:
To the shooting stars I say, trailing a train of conjectures:
I have conversed with you; so keep vigil, for at night my sorrows dwell within me.
“I have kept you in talk — so stay wakeful; night-long, sorrows are in me.
I have spoken with you, so stay awake, for sorrows dwell within me at night.

مِن نَظمِك راقَت لَمعٌ سائِرَةٌ
أُعجِبتُI was impressed بِهاby them وَكَيفَand how لاnot وَهيَwhen they are عُيونeyes
أُعجِبتُ بِها وَكَيفَ لا وَهيَ عُيون
From your array, my wandering gleams delighted me;
From your stringing, roving gleams have flashed out and delighted me,
Wandering gleams from your verse delighted me.
I was enchanted by them—and how could I not be, when they are eyes?
and I am taken with them — and how should I not be, when they are eyes?”
I admired them—and how could I not, when they are eyes?
