في النَفسِ أُسِرُّ ما عَلَيها وَلَها

To protect you, O my heart's desire, I conceal my passion.

To preserve you, my wish, I conceal desire

In my soul I keep secret what is against it and what is in its favor.

In my soul, keep secret what torments it

لا تَتَّهميني بِصدودٍ وَقلىً

لا تَتَّهميني بِصدودٍ وَقلىً

عَن مِثلك ما أَعرَضَ مِثلي وَلَها

عَن مِثلك ما أَعرَضَ مِثلي وَلَها

Do not accuse me of turning away or of hatred.

Reproach me not with rejection or disdain

From one like you, one like me has neither turned away nor grown heedless.

From your equal my like has never turned away, desiring
