Return to the ways of youthful playfulness, return.
No bough has grown green for us since your departure.
غَنّيتُI sang صَبابةًardent longing فَحَنَّso it sighed العودُthe lute
غَنّيتُ صَبابةً فَحَنَّ العودُ
اُذكواstoke فَعَلىfor upon النارthe fire يَفوحُreleases fragrance العودُthe aloeswood
اُذكوا فَعَلى النار يَفوحُ العودُ
I sang with longing, and the lute sighed.
Stoke the fire, for upon it aloeswood releases its fragrance.
