عَن خَدِّكَ عَبَّروا بورد وَشَقيق
عَنof نَكهتكyour breath اِكتَفواthey were content بِمِسكٍwith musk وَرَحيقand pure wine
عَن نَكهتك اِكتَفوا بِمِسكٍ وَرَحيق
Of your cheek they spoke through rose and anemone;
They described your cheek with roses and anemones.
Of your fragrance, they deemed musk and nectar enough;
For your breath, they were content with musk and pure wine.
عَنto ثغرِكَyour teeth وَالرِضابand the saliva فيin فيكِyour mouth كَنواthey alluded
عَن ثغرِكَ وَالرِضاب في فيكِ كَنوا
بِالبارِقِthrough al-Bariq وَالعُذَيبِand al-Udhayb مِنfrom أَرضthe land of عَقيقAqiq
بِالبارِقِ وَالعُذَيبِ مِن أَرض عَقيق
For your mouth and the saliva within it, they spoke in figures—
They alluded to your teeth and the saliva in your mouth
the lightning flash and al-ʿUdhayb, from the land of ʿAqīq.
Through al-Bariq and al-Udhayb, from the land of Aqiq.
