If he is slow to visit me, or tarries,
If he is late visiting me, or forgets me,
Or the state of his affection grows obscure and confused,
Or if his affection becomes difficult and slackens,

Far be it for love's cords, firmly bound,
Far be it that the deep affections of love
To be unraveled into loose strands after being strong.
Should break, after being so strong, into nothingness.
