Glad tidings to the world's al-Shahba, for she

Has been compensated for the loss of that departed man

في خير مطرانٍ سما بين الورى

شرفاً بأعمالٍ زكت وعلومِ

شرفاً بأعمالٍ زكت وعلومِ

In the finest metropolitan, exalted among humankind

In honor through pure deeds and learning:

مكسيموس الحبر المهذب ذو التقى

مكسيموس الحبر المهذب ذو التقى

فخر الأفاضل خير كل حزومِ

فخر الأفاضل خير كل حزومِ

Maximos, the refined prelate, endowed with piety,

Pride of the virtuous, best of all resolute men.

قال للذين أبو رياسته لقد

قال للذين أبو رياسته لقد

أخطأتم رايا بغير لزومِ

أخطأتم رايا بغير لزومِ

He said to those who rejected his leadership: "Indeed,

You have erred in judgment without cause.

ادّوا له حسن الإطاعة ذمةً

ادّوا له حسن الإطاعة ذمةً

ومن الوجوب تبرر المتهم

ومن الوجوب تبرر المتهم

Render him proper obedience as a solemn duty;

And vindicating the accused is obligatory."

ولمن يسل عنه بتاريخي اجب
