    وعزَّ صديقٌ صادقٌ حسبنا الحقُ

    If our enviers multiply, they count for little;

    and if a sincere friend is scarce, truth suffices us.

    I have not served you in their manner,

    but with virtues fashioned by truth.

    وكانت لك الشكوى ومن فمي النطقُ

    So, by God, they have not achieved their aims against me;

    the complaint went to you, and the words came from my mouth.

    Nor am I one to accept an intercessor before you,

    but my intercessor is your noble nature and character.

    So, by God, Haydar's discernment did not err:

    for he named you Rashid, that you might guide humankind.

    You owe justice, O father of justice, to one who has become

    your humble slave—far be it from him! No emancipation has blemished him.

    And at every moment he has remained, by God, faithful

    to your pledge and covenant; no bounty has beguiled him.

    To you, O my lord, he laments his misfortune,

    and so receives favors, and gentleness enfolds him.

    For I am not one whose rights may be lost,

    nor are you one with whom justice is lost.
