God gives, and time is generous.

And so the nights return with joy.

And if a man's helper is God,

say of him: 'That man is fortunate in both worlds.'

You find him gaining ranks and eminence,

day after day, while his glory grows.

Set aside talk of beautiful women and love for them,

for it does not help in attaining glory.

No person reaches the highest rank

if necks and figures distract him.

So deny love for the beautiful, wide-eyed women, even if

witnesses from their breasts have risen against you.

And turn your desire away from wine and drinking it.

No drunken young man ever won honor.

None in our age scales the peaks of eminence

and glory but a noble and peerless man.

Like him who reached the summit of greatness through his diligence:

Antoine Siour, the praiseworthy young man.

    فزهت به وزها بها التجديدُ

    A gallant man whom God honored with the highest rank;

it shone through him, and renewal shone through it.

They placed the bow of leadership in his palm,

so everyone pronounced him worthy and praiseworthy.

Not everyone who seeks eminence is suited to it

and has such a far-reaching grasp of it.

    رأياهُ دوماً صائب وسديدُ

    But generous Antoine is refined;

his judgment is always sound and right.

A gallant man who rose above the sky in loftiness,

and built the domes of glory wherever he wishes.

For his glory is of two kinds, each of which

suffices for him to be hailed: 'You are glorious.'

    Earned glory following inherited glory,

which a father and forefathers had attained before.

And pardon us if our pens fall short

in praising you, O valiant one.

It is no praise for me to say to the sun, 'O

sun,' and to call lions 'lions.'

Thus I have offered an excuse for my fault; and it is the way

of the noble to pardon, not to fetter.
