جعلَتني بينَ أَعدائي الثَلثةِ وال

جعلَتني بينَ أَعدائي الثَلثةِ وال

خَمسِ الحَواسِ وكلٌّ قد يُغالِبُني

خَمسِ الحَواسِ وكلٌّ قد يُغالِبُني

You have placed me among my three enemies and the

You made me amidst three and five foes -

five senses, and each may strive to overcome me.

The senses, each strives to defeat me.

إنَّ الطبيعةَ ما زالت تحاولُ ما

إنَّ الطبيعةَ ما زالت تحاولُ ما

يَخُصُّها ولَمِا تَهوَى تُجاذِبُني

يَخُصُّها ولَمِا تَهوَى تُجاذِبُني

Indeed, nature keeps pursuing what

Nature still tries what's hers,

concerns her, and contends with me for what she desires.

And pulls me to what she craves.

فالجِسمُ يَبغِي انتِصاراً في هَواهُ على

فالجِسمُ يَبغِي انتِصاراً في هَواهُ على

روُحي وكلٌّ بما يَهوَى يُطالِبُني

روُحي وكلٌّ بما يَهوَى يُطالِبُني

For the body, in its passion, seeks victory over

My body seeks its lust's conquest,

my soul, and each demands of me what it desires.

Over my soul - each by its want claims me.

وإِن هَفَوتُ لضَعفي لستَ تُغفِلُني

وإِن هَفَوتُ لضَعفي لستَ تُغفِلُني

بل ساهرَ العينِ يقظاناً تُرَاقِبُني

بل ساهرَ العينِ يقظاناً تُرَاقِبُني

And if I falter through my weakness, you do not neglect me;

If I slip in my weakness, you don't neglect me,

rather, with sleepless eye, vigilant, you watch over me.

Rather, wakeful-eyed, watch me closely.

هَب لي إذاً نِعمةً نَقَّاذةً أبداً

هَب لي إذاً نِعمةً نَقَّاذةً أبداً

تدومُ بي ومعي ثُمَّت تُواظِبُني

تدومُ بي ومعي ثُمَّت تُواظِبُني

Grant me, then, a grace that always saves,

Bestow on me then a saving grace, everlasting,

that abides in me and with me, then steadfastly attends me.

That stays and accompanies me constantly.

واجعَل مُقامِيَ في دارِ السلامِ ودَع

واجعَل مُقامِيَ في دارِ السلامِ ودَع

جميعَ مَن في الوَرَى ضِدّاً يُحارِبُني

جميعَ مَن في الوَرَى ضِدّاً يُحارِبُني

And make my dwelling in the abode of peace, and let

Make my abode in the House of Peace, and leave

all those in the world fight against me as foes.

All in the world who oppose and fight me.
