Whoever is not submissive to his superior

With the utmost obedience and the fullest contentment,

Indicates that the body has not submitted to him,

Rather, it is unruly and has not been tamed.

So hasten gladly to obey the superior,

If you wish to subdue your restive body.

Indeed, we destroy our enemy from without,

If the house of the spirit is not torn down.

So despise them—a soul that seeks honor—[wording unclear].

And begin anew at once all that has gone before.
