متى ما اسطَعتَ جُوداً فابذُلَنه

متى ما اسطَعتَ جُوداً فابذُلَنه

وحاذِر أَن تقولَ غداً أَجُودُ

وحاذِر أَن تقولَ غداً أَجُودُ

Whenever you can give generously, be sure to do so;

And beware of saying, “Tomorrow I will be generous.”

فإنَّ غداً لمَجهولٌ ولكن

فإنَّ غداً لمَجهولٌ ولكن

زمانُ الحال معلومٌ اكيدُ

زمانُ الحال معلومٌ اكيدُ

For tomorrow is surely unknown, but

The present time is known and certain.

فما لكَ غيرُ وقتٍ أَنتَ فيهِ

فما لكَ غيرُ وقتٍ أَنتَ فيهِ

وان مرَّ الزمانُ فلا يعودُ

وان مرَّ الزمانُ فلا يعودُ

For you have nothing but the moment you are in;

And once time has passed, it does not return.

فإن سَحّاً فسَحٌ من كريمٍ

فإن سَحّاً فسَحٌ من كريمٍ

وان شُحّاً فشُحٌّ مستزيدُ

وان شُحّاً فشُحٌّ مستزيدُ

For if it is an outpouring, it is an outpouring from a generous soul;

And if it is stinginess, it is stinginess that craves more.
