O preacher, striving to win praise—
O preacher who seeks praise,
not to make pleasing virtues your lasting possession—
not the begetting of delightful virtues,

you are like the libertine who does not seek
you are like the libertine who does not seek
the choicest offspring, but only pursues his pleasure.
the finest offspring, but pursues pleasure.
