However much our bodies grow and flourish,
No matter how our bodies flourish and thrive
The seedbeds of our spirit dry up and vanish.
The springs of our soul have withered and died

And when we put the soul to death, we revive it—oh,
And when the soul leaves, bid it adieu
what a wonder—a soul that lived by being put to death!
How strange is a soul that lives by its death anew
