تدبَّر بالأُمورِ على قِياسِ

صحيحِ النَتجِ من دونِ التِباسِ

صحيحِ النَتجِ من دونِ التِباسِ

Consider affairs through reasoning

Sound in its conclusions, free of ambiguity.

ولا تغتَرَّ مُنخَدِعاً بامرٍ

ولا تغتَرَّ مُنخَدِعاً بامرٍ

جرى يوماً على غير القِياسِ

جرى يوماً على غير القِياسِ

And do not be beguiled and deceived by something

That once happened contrary to the rule.

فتعليظُ المريض وقد تنَّفى

فتعليظُ المريض وقد تنَّفى

وقاهُ نَقاؤُهُ شَرَّ انتكاسِ

وقاهُ نَقاؤُهُ شَرَّ انتكاسِ

For a [harshly treated] patient, once [cleansed],

Was spared the harm of relapse by his cleansed state.

وذا ما لا يُقاسُ عليهِ فاحذَر

وذا ما لا يُقاسُ عليهِ فاحذَر

عِلاجاً من سِوَى تدبيرِ آسِ

عِلاجاً من سِوَى تدبيرِ آسِ

This is no basis for analogy, so beware

Of treatment outside a physician’s guidance.
