وللعِبادِ مزايا جَمَّةٌ جَمُلَت

وللعِبادِ مزايا جَمَّةٌ جَمُلَت

منها المحبَّةُ حينَ الشوقُ يضطرمُ

منها المحبَّةُ حينَ الشوقُ يضطرمُ

And people have many beautiful virtues,

The faithful have abundant merits in full

Among them love when longing blazes.

Among them, affection when longing is kindled

ثُمَّ اختبارُ أُناسٍ في مَوَدَّتهم

ثُمَّ اختبارُ أُناسٍ في مَوَدَّتهم

ببسطِ عُذر إذا ما زَلَّتِ القَدَمُ

ببسطِ عُذر إذا ما زَلَّتِ القَدَمُ

Then comes testing people's affection,

Then the testing of people in their affection

By offering an excuse when the foot slips.

By extending an excuse when footsteps falter
