يا لنفسٍ تُحارِبُ اللَه عمداً

يا لنفسٍ تُحارِبُ اللَه عمداً

بخَطاءٍ كأَنَّهُ سهمُ قاتل

بخَطاءٍ كأَنَّهُ سهمُ قاتل

Alas for a soul that deliberately wars against God,

Ah, a soul that deliberately wages war against God,

through wrongdoing that is like a deadly arrow.

with a sin as though it were a deadly arrow!

قال فيها النبيُّ وَحيَ الهٍ

قال فيها النبيُّ وَحيَ الهٍ

جئنَ في طيِّه النفوسُ القواتل

جئنَ في طيِّه النفوسُ القواتل

The Prophet said of it, by revelation from God:

Of it, the prophet uttered a revelation from God;

Within its folds came the murderous souls.

حارَبَتني فكلُّكم حارِبوها

حارَبَتني فكلُّكم حارِبوها

واقتُلوها فَهيَ العدوُّ المُقاتِل

واقتُلوها فَهيَ العدوُّ المُقاتِل

It has fought me—so all of you, fight it;

They fought Me, so all of you fight them,

and kill it, for it is the fighting enemy.

وارشُقوها لا تُشفِقُنَّ عليها

وارشُقوها لا تُشفِقُنَّ عليها

بسِهامٍ تُصِيبها في المقاتل

بسِهامٍ تُصِيبها في المقاتل

Shoot it, and show it no pity,

And shoot at them; have no pity on them,

with arrows that strike it in its mortal spots.
