أهديتَ ممَّا في يديكَ محبةً

أهديتَ ممَّا في يديكَ محبةً

فعليَّ أنْ أُهديكَ ممَّا في فَمِي

فعليَّ أنْ أُهديكَ ممَّا في فَمِي

You gave some of what was in your hands out of love;

so I must give you some of what is in my mouth.

أُهدِيكَ حمدَ الشاكرينَ فإنَّهم

أُهدِيكَ حمدَ الشاكرينَ فإنَّهم

قد قابلوا بالحمدِ جُودَ المُنعِمِ

قد قابلوا بالحمدِ جُودَ المُنعِمِ

I offer you the praise of the grateful, for they

have met the benefactor’s generosity with praise.

وإذا عَدَلتَ هديَّةً بهديَّةٍ

وإذا عَدَلتَ هديَّةً بهديَّةٍ

ما زال حُكمُ الفضلِ للمُتقَدِّمِ

ما زال حُكمُ الفضلِ للمُتقَدِّمِ

And when you match one gift with another,

the first to give is still judged the worthier.
