Today your Lord has given the bow to its maker,

and lodged the house’s builder within it after exile.

and renewed the gray-white dynasty, restoring

those of its brilliant stars that vanished from us yesterday.

in your land today, so its nights have turned white.

He is the glorious Shihab, a name joined to a title

that circulates, its words reflecting their meanings.

Head of all the clans in Lebanon,

to him they willingly stretch out their hands.

No one is ashamed to kiss his palm

in the land of Lebanon, even among its loftiest heads.

Nor does anyone see a fault in obeying him

there, and its lords call him ‘our lord.’

Scion of Bashir, of whom the world spoke incessantly,

and whose renown spread for ages to its farthest reaches.

Time will perish, yet the memory of his reign will endure

on earth, while time unfolds generations and folds them away.

O you who hold office, whose station is exalted

by a state guarded by the All-Merciful’s gaze:

Glad tidings for the land whose ruler you have become!

Glad tidings for its homes, glad tidings for its people!

You are the prince who has never ceased to enjoin

    good upon a soul, restraining it from burdens of sin;

the land’s pillar, whose rule it has grown accustomed to

for ages, so that rule became like one of its firm-set mountains.

A victory near at hand has come from God, the Generous,

to the gate of a glorious state whose governor you have become.

    في نَظمِ تأْريخهِ ضاءَت لآليها

    I have published pages of history far and wide;

their pearls shone in the verse of its chronogram.
