Light has indeed shone over Lebanon's reaches,

when the mighty one, of lofty station, alighted there.

He is the fortunate one whose kindnesses are renowned,

    like dawn, needing no proof.

Refined, he excels in both form and character,

as though he were an angel in a human body.

The carpet of the wind befits him on a journey,

for he is no less than Solomon.

Every minister spends the night beneath his banner,

willingly, and every sultan yearns for him.

And wherever he alights, throngs circle around him,

like water around which every thirsty soul circles.

O visitor to Beirut's port, whose smiling

teeth reveal to you the blossoms of a garden!

If the earth had the power, when you visited it, it would have laid

before you roads of pearls and coral.
