كأقلامٍlike pens تَخُطُّwrite بأُرجُوانِin crimson
Indeed, she walked gracefully, her fingertips dyed,
The branches have appeared as if dyed
Like pens that write in crimson.
Like pens etching in purple
ومَدَّتْand she extended مِعصَماًa wrist منهاof hers نضيراًfresh and fair
كَفَرْعٍlike a shoot نابتٍgrowing مِنfrom غصنa branch بانِa bān tree
And she held out a fresh, fair wrist of hers,
And it has extended a twin forearm
Like a shoot growing from a bān-tree bough.
Like a sprouting branch from a bending bough

ينوبُstands in سكوتُهُits silence عنfor تَرجُمانِan interpreter
Her ornaments jingling, she donned a bracelet
The nightingale adorned in jewelry
Whose silence stands in for an interpreter.
Whose silence takes the place of a translator

لبَهْجتهِfor its beauty فزانتهُyet adorned it اليَدَانِthe two hands
She wished to adorn her two hands with it
She wanted to adorn her hands with it
For its beauty—yet the two hands adorned it.
For its radiance, her hands became more radiant

I saw in it a physician for my ailment,
I saw it as a remedy for my ailment
Feeling the pulse in beautiful women's hands.
Feeling the pulse from the hands of affection

Whoever has seen them tells people about them,
He who saw it tells people about it
But the teller's account is not like seeing firsthand.
But the tale of the storyteller is not like seeing
