ضريحٌ حلَّ فيهِ كريمُ قومٍ

ضريحٌ حلَّ فيهِ كريمُ قومٍ

دَعاهُ إليهِ مَولاهُ الكريمُ

دَعاهُ إليهِ مَولاهُ الكريمُ

A tomb wherein one noble among his people came to rest;

A tomb in which a noble man of his people rests;

His gracious Lord summoned him unto Himself.

his generous Lord called him to Himself.

فقلْ لِبني عطاءِ الله صبراً

فقلْ لِبني عطاءِ الله صبراً

على كأسٍ يَغَصُّ بها النَّديمُ

على كأسٍ يَغَصُّ بها النَّديمُ

So bid the sons of ʿAṭāʾ Allāh be patient

So tell the sons of Ata Allah: be patient

before a cup on which the boon companion chokes.

with a cup on which the drinking companion chokes.

إلى دار السَّلامِ مضَى أميناً

إلى دار السَّلامِ مضَى أميناً

بحفِظِ اللهِ يشمَلُهُ النَّعيمُ

بحفِظِ اللهِ يشمَلُهُ النَّعيمُ

Secure, he passed into the Abode of Peace;

To the Abode of Peace he went in safety;

in God’s keeping, bliss envelops him.

under God's protection, bliss encompasses him.

فقلتُ مبشِّراً لمؤرِّخيهِ

فقلتُ مبشِّراً لمؤرِّخيهِ

بتلكَ الدَّارِ محفوظٌ سليمُ

بتلكَ الدَّارِ محفوظٌ سليمُ

So I said, bearing glad tidings to those dating his death:

So I said, bearing glad tidings to his chroniclers:

In that abode, Salīm is enfolded all around.

In that abode, Salim is safeguarded.
