الحَمُدُpraise لِلَّهِto God اماas for بَعدwhat follows ياO عمرUmar
الحَمُدُ لِلَّهِ اما بَعد يا عمر
فَقَدfor indeed اتَتناcame to us بِكَwith you الحاجاتِthe needs وَالقَدَرand fate
فَقَد اتَتنا بِكَ الحاجاتِ وَالقَدَر
Praise be to God; now then, O Umar:

For needs and fate have brought you to us.
You have brought us needs and destiny
فَأَنتَfor you رَأسhead قُرَيشQuraysh وَاِبنand son سَيدهاits chief
فَأَنتَ رَأس قُرَيش وَاِبن سَيدها
وَالرَأسand the head فيهِin it يَكونُis السَمعhearing وَالبَصَرand sight
وَالرَأس فيهِ يَكونُ السَمع وَالبَصَر
For you are the head of Quraysh and the son of its chief,
You are the chief of Quraysh and son of its master
And in the head are hearing and sight.
