Ibn Layla speaks, and excels in speech;
The son of Layla speaks well, and acts better than he speaks. A youth whom only the sincere befriend, while the insincere spurn him. So give glad tidings to the people of Egypt, for he has come to them, a Nile to go with their Nile.
And his deeds surpass the best of what he says.
فَتىa young man لاnot يرزَأtakes from الخُلّانُfriends إِلّاexcept
فَتى لا يرزَأ الخُلّانُ إِلّا
مَوَدَّتَهُمtheir affection وَيَرزؤهand takes from him الخَليلthe close friend
مَوَدَّتَهُم وَيَرزؤه الخَليل
A young man who takes nothing from his friends except
Their affection, while his friend takes from him.
فَبَشِّرso give glad tidings to أَهلَthe people of مِصرEgypt فَقَدfor indeed أَتاهُمhas come to them
فَبَشِّر أَهلَ مِصر فَقَد أَتاهُم
مَعalongside النيلthe Nile الَّذيthat فيin مِصرEgypt نيلa Nile
مَع النيل الَّذي في مِصر نيل
So give Egypt’s people glad tidings: there has come to them,
Alongside the Nile in Egypt, another Nile.
